Fayetteville got its name from the term shoals. In white water, shoals are rock formations that create riffles and eddies. Trout inhabit these areas for many reasons, but mostly for the rich oxygen they produce, as well as cover from direct sunlight in the form of waves. Look
for these areas if you’re fishing from shore, as they will always have fish in them. Also generally just below these shoals there will most likely be a dropoff; trout like these areas because of the current break, which allows them to maintain their location using less energy.
